Calder House is owned by a Bovina artist, Neil Powell. This stylish Bovina retreat is situated on 15 acres of gardens and woodland. Large porch, fire pit, eclectic contemporary art and furniture. 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, beds for 8 + 2 couches.
The property has the feeling of yesteryear with modern touches. Warm and inviting, there is something for everyone. Gather in the kitchen and living room for a home cooked meal or after dinner games. Throughout the year roast marshmallows outside at the enormous bonfire with enough benches for the whole family. In the Fall sip coffee on the front porch while the morning fog rises over the fields and watch the mountain turn golden with the sun. At Calder House every season in Bovina is truly spectacular.
Calder House is located in the historic hamlet of Bovina Center. Bovina Center was founded in 1820 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. A drive through the town will prove that much of its history remains intact. Russell's Store, a 5 minute walk from Calder House, has been the town store for 200 years. Get a cup of coffee, pick up some local produce and find out that days news, just like they did back then. Delaware County is known for being a foodie destination and has plenty of activities to offer like hiking, mountain biking, antiquing and more.
We also offer a lovely guesthouse just a few yards from the main house for an additional cost. Recently fully renovated, it contains two queen beds, Internet, a full bath, and a kitchenette. The guesthouse is decorated by Neil, who is an artist and takes great care to provide an interesting and fun decor for guests. We rent the guesthouse only with the rental of the property. Summary: My wife and I loved the house. Excellent appliances, good water pressure, heat if we needed it on the 45 degree mornings in the mountains. The pool was a nice relaxing space, the patio was great for eating outside, the porches were nice for sunset and reading. It was nice to get a visit from the resident friendly pig, Toodle loo and his partner the turkey. Location is good for explorintg Delaware Country and the western catskills. Neil was responsive and helpful in all cases.

Summary: Due to a kitchen renovation, we were unable to host Christmas at home so our three adult children joined us at Calder House. I am an avid cook, and I so appreciated the ample counter space, double oven, and all the necessary cookware. We gathered around the dining table with a fire lit in the nearby wood stove most nights. Magical. Living space is generous and beds are super comfortable. We'd love to return in warm weather and make use of the pool and property.

Summary: We really enjoyed our time in Bovina Center! Neil’s home had an open kitchen/dining room that leads to a family/game room. We spent most of our time there. Beds were comfortable. Be sure to look at Neil’s art all throughout the house. All in all a great, relaxing time.

Summary: We loved our week at Calder House. Neil was a very gracious host, and was available to answer any questions about the house and offer suggestions for things to do in the area. The house is vibrant and is well equipped with everything we needed to cook and to sleep 8 of us comfortably. The property is beautiful, and includes a lovely pool, a fire pit, hammocks, lawn games, a garden and woods to explore. It is clear that Neil put a lot of effort into making it a magical place to stay. We would love to return.

Summary: We absolutely loved our time at the Calder House and exploring the towns and nature nearby. Neil was an excellent host that clearly cares a lot about his place as well as the guests experience. If anything, I think he may be underselling what a unique and amazing property this is. The weather wasn't amazing during our trip, but it didn't stop the fun. We had one perfect weather day and we enjoyed every second at the pool / concrete pond! The highlight of the trip outside of the property itself was Putt-Putt VanWinkle and an absolutely delicious Turkish pop-up dinner special from Catskills Harvest on the way to Andes. The beds were so comfortable and the kitchen was a dream to use, couldn't recommend this place enough!

Summary: I can't rave about this place enough. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the host for a brief tour and got to meet some of the sweet animals that live on the premises! The house was spectacular- clean, unique and filled with beautiful art and the kitchen is stocked with literally everything (equipment & dish-ware) you could possibly need! The beds were SO comfortable. Every single person in the house had the best night of sleep that they've had in a while. Could be the peaceful, serene exterior also, but I think the beds had something to do with it! The pool was great and perfect on a hot summer day! It was so clean and had lots of floaties available to just lounge. We unfortunately didn't do a bonfire, but really wish we had! it's a great set up! Such a beautiful home and amazing host! He was so responsive prior to the trip and during! We really loved everything about our stay and can't wait to come back.
