Summary: I am a host as well so I knew to read the entire description. The house exceeded our expectations! We loved hearing the trains. They rarely blew their horns (and never at night). The living room sofa/chair were super comfy and so was the King Bed mattress (we didn’t sleep in the other bed). The kitchen had everything we needed!! The host is awesome… we arrived to fresh flowers on the table and snacks! I highly recommend booking this place if you’re looking to get away into the country. It’s super close to the James River but is on a tiny street with next to zero traffic (besides the trains). We have AT&T and had no cell reception but were able to stay in touch via the WiFi. If you’re arriving at night, know it’s VERY dark and hard to see the address but it’s the 3rd house from the church :)

Summary: I loved the history of the home and there nearby railroad station. The home had all of the amenities you could possibly need. I was able to sleep well despite the loud trains nearby (but I used ear plugs). James River State Park was a treasure to experience especially on horseback. The only things I could complain about in regards to the home were the very thin pillows on the master bed, the very see through blinds/curtains which inhibited my ability to sleep well, and the floors were disgustingly filthy and we had to keep our shoes on in order to keep our feet from turning black. Other than that, it was a cute home in a very historical area which I adored and could look past my dislikes.

Summary: We enjoyed our stay. Anytime I had a question the property owner/manager was very responsive. We wanted a place close to Amherst to go down memory lane and this was perfect. I am a train buff so hearing the trains going by lulls me to sleep.

Summary: This was a great getaway spot. The house was clean and comfortable and the check in was very easy. Shantina made us feel very welcome by taking the extra step of leaving breakfast treats and fresh cut flowers for us. We used the house as a base for trips to Appomattox, Lynchburg, and hiking in the James River State Park. It all made for a great weekend trip.

Summary: Exterior is a work in progress. Interior is nicely remodeled, cozy, and quaint. Online booking was easy. There was no external to antenna for possible local channels, if that’s important to you. I was familiar with ROKU and similar “free” tv services. To me it’s a rather complicated system to use/understand. I was hoping that the railroad tracks across the street were seldom/no longer used. If daily early morning trains (3 AM) bother you, this property may not be for you. Not a light sleeper and easily fall back to sleep so I didn’t mind. Scenery is nice.
