Positive: Maria, the hostess at ChiaBes, waited an extra day for me because of a flight cancellation. She thought through everything a guest could possibly need. The apartment was spotless and so comfortable I did not want to leave. This location proved to be perfect, as I could walk everywhere in the historic center of Caltagirone. I came to Caltagirone to use it as a base for exploring other towns, but I barely left. Artists are working everywhere and their colorful ceramics are in dozens of shops, a visual extravaganza. Baroque facades are everywhere. Churches holding treasures, same. There are plenty of restaurants. I met a couple from Rome who said the food was better in Caltagirone than in Rome. The magnificent staircase is just a three minute walk from ChiaBes and I made sure I walked up it everyday for exercise after the delicious pistachio pastries. Thank you Maria for helping to make my time in Caltagirone stellar!
