Negative: Our bedroom had a bath with a very violent hand shower, made it difficult to enjoy washing!

Positive: Wonderful stay, the hosts are just marvelous ans so nice. The room was spacious and extremely quiet….in a 14 century building. Just wonderful. And the breakfast in the garden is one that we will remember.

Positive: Perfect! Wonderful welcome from the owners which was a treat. Warm, comfortable bedroom and separate sitting room and really good shower! Spectacular breakfast - best ever! Kept us going until dinner! Will definitely be staying again.

Positive: Chateau du Champdolent was a charming, charming place in the middle of French farmlands with a super kind host. This was one of our favorite places we stayed at in France. The building itself has an incredible history dating back to the 15th century with links to the royal family. Dominique’s meticulous restoration has saved all of the old beauty while making the space modern and comfortable. Our room was very spacious and the bathroom huge with an extra-long bathtub. The breakfast was very delicious and beautifully presented. It was definitely the best breakfast of our entire trip! Free and spacious parking was very welcome. After the hustle and bustle of the cities, Champdolent was a wonderful way to decompress and take in the quiet and beautiful countryside. We highly recommend this Chateau!

Positive: 1. Hosts Dominic & Lille really try to make one's stay as agreeable as possible. They are somewhat quirky but engaging. 2. My room had ill-fitting false wooden flooring, which creaked loudly when one walked about. 3. My toilet flush had a 'masher' fitted and the latter proved to be rather unpredictable ( unable to always flush away)! 4. A symptom of 3. (above) is that the smell could be overpowering from time to time. On some occasions it did work OK. 5.My breakfast was outstanding, including home grown produce. Excellent!

Negative: 6. The hotel only accepts cash payment ( no cards, bank transfers, Pay-Pal etc..). 7. Parking is really cramped for guests cars and the path to the building from the road is really uneven and, as such, challenging for a sports or lower sprung car. 8. It is neccessary to walk in the outside over a (sometimes wet) grass lawn to the breakfast room. Take wellies! 9. Driving back from dinner ( say, in Rochefort) can be a test due to narrow. muddy lanes, no signage and no lighting.

Positive: Beautifully restored huge room with lovely old furniture and spacious bathroom on the ground floor of a wing of the old manor house and ancient tower. Own front door and table and chairs on lawn outside. Fresh fruit salad , omelette, lovely jams etc for breakfast .

Negative: Booking.com says meals available but not , however this was not an issue as the host kindly supplied a printed list of restaurants open on a Sunday evening and we had one of the best value set meals we have ever tasted in Rochefort - a short drive away - Vivre- very smart expensive restaurant overlooking port ( 9 euros for a portion of vegetables etc ) but with a three course meal for just 30 euros starting with huge portions of steak tartare ,then pork loin in a lovely sauce and brownie and icecream - excellent service.
