La Maison du Lac sits on the edge of a tiny hamlet nestled in the heart of chestnut country with dominant panoramic views over ancient woodland and Grand Jaques the tower of Chateau Montbrun which rises from the trees - the chateau to which Richard coeur de Lion was brought having been fatally wounded in Chalus. The countryside around here resonates with history and the local area is interlaced with many foot and cycle paths by which the area can be explored - the most interesting of which is surely the mown track leading through cornfields directly from the house to the Chateau bar/ restaurant which offers live music on Friday evenings. A fenced lake and orchard of châtaigniers belonging to the property, and which can be seen from the terrace and is only a 2 minute walk along the village road is accessible to our guests as a place to relax and forage (although fishing is not allowed). The local village, with basic provisions, is 2 mins away by car and there are several larger towns with supermarkets and restaurants within a ten minute drive. Should the table tennis, pool or many shelves of DVDs/books not prove entertainment enough many further activities such as go-karting ( the longest circuit in the Limousin) paintball, accro-bois and swimming lakes can be found within a 20 minute drive from the house and the Dordogne with all of it's own attractions is right on the doorstep. (NB. Please note that the pool is only heated from July to Mid September)

Summary: If you’re looking for a spacious French farmhouse with beautiful grounds that offers home comforts, exceptional cleanliness, and all the things that you’d dream of in a holiday home then look no further. Incredibly comfortable beds, air conditioning, UK television, lounge log burner, plentiful hot water, bar-b-q, well equipped kitchen with everything you’ll need were just the start. The surrounding scenery and wildlife were to die for and that in combination with the terrace area and wonderful pool made this a truly fantastic find. Hosts Matthew and Helen were the perfect hosts being informative of the local area and available without ever being intrusive. Fully equipped supermarkets are within a 20-minute drive and with all mod-cons in the kitchen including large fridge-freezer, gas hob, oven and dishwasher plus the opportunity for alfresco dining mean that once supplied you can enjoy being self-sufficient and relax. I’d happily recommend a stay and be comfortable in knowing that you’ll enjoy it as much as our family did for our two-week stay!

Summary: We were two families that had a lovely week staying at this wonderful, well-equipped property. The heated pool was the order of the day, every day! Grounds are perfect for relaxing by the pool with a good book or playing badminton, table tennis, etc. The flower garden was full of butterflies, and spotting lizards was an added bonus for kids and adults alike 😊 Definitely recommend!

Summary: We spent 2 fabulous weeks staying in this beautiful house. The views were to die for, pool got lots of use from all of us and the only downside was that we had to leave! Very helpful hosts which made it even better. The area is lovely and we found loads to do from kayaking, visiting local chateaus, boat trips, sight seeing.. the list goes on. Highly recommend as long as there is space in the diary for us to revisit!

Summary: We had a very pleasant week in Dournazac. The house is spacious and clean with all amenities present and fabulous views from the garden. Our kids had a great week with all the games and toys available in the house. A very nice bonus are the three bathrooms. Helen and Matt were excellent hosts.
