Positive: the cottage was close to a decent pub and bus stop, and was clean, tidy and the facilities functioned as advertised

Negative: Location was not ideal for the festival so this was on us for organising to stay there. The staircase , entrance to the bathroom is really tiny and tight, kitchen is small even for a galley kitchen

Summary: Did its job but would stay elsewhere in future for the festival

Positive: The property was very clean. It had a few nice touches. The bedroom was very nice.

Negative: The property advertised free parking. The advert has since changed. It should state that there is no off road parking and on road parking is very limited. If you want to you can park quite a distance from the cottage. You will need to pay 2.00 overnight. You will have to get up early to move your car before 8 am. Or you can pay an extra 10.00 per day to use the car park on a holiday basis. The advert needs to advise this. The stairs to the bath/bedroom are narrow and twisted. It would be a good idea to put a low level night light there to prevent accidents. Leaving the bathroom light on is far to bright. If you have mobility issues this is impractical. Unfortunately on our last day I had a serious fall down the stairs. Fortunately I did not break the cup I was holding. But I hit my head very hard badly bruised my hip and spine. Could have been a lot worse, but left in serious pain. Pub across street not particularly friendly or welcoming when entered. On positive side it is a great place to travel from. Busses are excellent. No need to bring your car you can get to all of the island using them. Rides are only 2.00.

Positive: Location was very convenient for three bus routes (bus stops for each close by), well-stocked Co-op a short walk away, Waverley pub across the road with roasts on Wed eve, open mic night Mon, folk night Wed (not sure if these were weekly events). The island has a good bus network to visit all the places of interest. Newport centre is only about 15-20mins away on foot through the church graveyard and then on back streets so a pleasant walk instead of using the bus. The castle is also in walking distance (and can be seen from the bedroom window) although you could catch the bus for a couple of stops to get closer. Recommend that you buy the A-Z map of the island that has all the numbered footpaths on it - so useful. The cottage was comfy with heating, hot water plus instant heat over the bath shower. Comfy bed. The kitchen was compact but had more than we needed - microwave, toaster, coffee machine (plus some pods), air fryer, proper oven with grill, hob, kettle, radio. There were only two small saucepans so some might prefer another bigger one, as mentioned by another reviewer, but it wasn't an issue. There's a little patio with table and chairs to use in good weather. Well stocked with cleaning materials, loo paper, and handwash.

Negative: The cottage is on a road that's busy twice a day, and single glazing means the traffic can be loud but there was hardly any overnight so I didn't need the ear plugs that I took just in case. If you're used to quietness then be aware. In summer the south-facing bedroom might become hot as opening the window would let in noise and traffic fumes. However there was a fan provided. An all-electric cottage but no timers on the immersion tank or central heating so you do have to remember to switch things off when not needed to help the owner's bills! Not a dislike as such; more a problem for the owner.

Summary: A well-equipped base for a walking holiday, exploring the island by bus and on foot.
