A break from the chaos? This old farmhouse in the Sicilian countryside might be a good option.
Part of an ancient farm of the early 1800s and currently at the center of a modern organic farm, like living in another era but with wifi. You will recharge your batteries in a few days, for sure!
THE HOUSE
The farmhouse is built in the traditional way, with thick stone walls and wooden roof. What an insulation! Take a nap, without the annoying buzz of the air conditioner or fan. And what a relief from the heat, sitting on the terrace in the evening lounging by a pleasant sea breeze and accompanied by the cicadas chant.
And in winter? A cute fireplace will warm up your evenings!
The house will be only for you, no other guest, since we live in the city. The garden is at your disposal for a 0 Km snack: oranges, mandarins, tangerines, figs, prickly pear, loquat, apricots, pomegranate. Are they in the season? Or spice up your meals with aromatic plants and lemons.
The breakfast has to be taken in the terrace accompanied by the bird songs, of course, and barbecue (you have all the necessary) done under the starry sky (you will see them for real).
Fancy a walk or a bike ride? The countryside is waiting for you with its olive groves, carobs, vineyards and wheat fields ... but no pesticides and watch out for insects.
It's a bit rustic indeed, but you got everything you need: fridge, washing machine, equipped water. We provide sheets and towels.
And if you want a selfie of you making pizza, we also have a traditional stone oven.
The garden is surrounded by high walls, there is also a closed inner courtyard. Your pets will love it ... but too dry for the crocodiles! Let the children play in the football pitch, safe and hassle-free!
We have just installed a new Wi-max antenna, so have unlimited internet and freedom of movement.

THE DISTRICT
The house is secluded, but 10 minutes from Scicli downtown if you fancy a culture-inspired evening, taste local food or chatting with locals while you shop for souvenirs. If you want to find the beach refrigeration, contemplating a sunset or simply returning from holidays with a decent tan you have the choice. All the beaches, from Sampieri to Donnalucata, are up to 10 minutes. A jump to Noto or Syracuse for another adventure? You are on the right track without even having to passing through the town.
There are great supermarkets and a gas station 2 km away. You won’t need anything else.
MOBILITY
Rigorously by car or scooter. What do you expect in Sicily? By the way, you have no choice if you come from the airport and you want to see the nearby cities or go for the beaches. But at least you won’t have any of the parking troubles of the city!

Summary: This was the second time we stayed at the property. We were able to enjoy the place much more this time as bad weather was a minimal and we were able to enjoy the garden and explore Scicli more! Host was welcoming and helpful all throughout 😊 sincerely hope we are able to stay there again soon! 💜

Summary: We were meant to be 4 people, but our friends couldn't travel to Sicily as a cyclone/hurricane hit the Mediterranean. Despite the terrible weather and being locked indoors for 3 days, my partner, my dog and I were kept safe in this lovely house. The garden is gorgeous and the courtyard is excellent to play games in! Alberto and his father were very accommodating and understanding of our needs. We had plenty of firewood to keep us warm and enjoy the lovely fireplace. My only complaint is the double bad. I had to sleep in another bed as I didn't find it comfortable at all. My partner however managed to sleep without issue (so could just be me!). I definitely would love to return! 💜 Thank you Alberto and Papa!

Summary: At the end of a stony track Casa Ritegno is off grid (with wi-fi!) It has all that Alberto states. Good aircon, decent kitchen, loads of space inside with a large garden. The washing machine needs attention as the spin cycle is poor. All the Val de Noto towns are a short car ride away. Modica chocolate is a must try, Montalbano fans will find all you need in this area. Well worth considering this farmhouse.
