Positive: Perfect location for hiking the vulcano. Cicilio and Helena are very friendly people. The food was also amazing.

Positive: We were very well received by our hosts. They don't have electrical power, so they use solar panels to provide their guests with electricity and warm water, because of this we felt very lucky and welcome there, since they don't even have a fridge, so they can provide this to their guests. The food is also incredible and they serve very well, with great breakfast. They also were able to provide us transfer and a guide to climb the volcano, who was very kind and help us a lot. We recommend this place if you plan to climb the volcano.

Negative: The shower didn't have curtains, so we need to ask for a mop to clean the bathroom after using it.

Positive: Wonderful stay in a lava stone funco (traditional house). The room and facilities are simple but offer everything you need. The host Cesario was very welcoming and his wife Helena a wonderful cook. As there are not many facilities (restaurants, shops) in the area, I opted to eat dinner at the guesthouse. The homemade meals by Helena were easily one of the best I had in the whole of Cabo Verde. Also, excellent breakfast, respectful of my dietary wishes. Hot water was a bit sketchy but they offered me showers in another room. The guesthouse offers direct access to the lavafields, with wonderful walks in the area of access to the vulcano(es). I had a wonderful stay here and can highly recommend it.

Negative: Nothing at Casa Helena's. One thing that is a shame to visit the area, is that there's only an aluguer early in the day from Sao Filipe to Cha das Caldeiras, which means that you need to take a private taxi up, for which I paid 50 euros. Cesario can arrange airport pick up. Very comfortable.
