Summary: the house and grounds are immaculate. It is the best kept beach in the area! My favorite spot was sitting in the lounge chairs on the large balcony outside our bedroom overlooking the beach and the ocean. The amenities are great. The advance info was very helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with our gracious hosts. They included us in their local community activities & dinners! I am sorry I had to leave before I could go snorkeling with my host.

Summary: First of all, the house is spectacular. You're steps away from a pristine beach and ocean life. We were stunned when arrived and were shown the premises. The accommodations are amazing. The upper level of the residence is divided between two units with one unit containing the kitchen. Both units have balconies that overlook the beach and ocean, with one being under an enclosed palapa. You also get access to a rooftop the provides amazing views of the ocean and lagoon. There is an original unit with a bedroom and the addition with the second master. The original doesn't quite have the luxuries of the addition, but we had no complaints about either. The master and bath located in the addition has shower that overlooks the ocean and beach, and we found it a treat to use daily. In the addition bedroom, you literally open your eyes every morning to palm trees and a spectacular ocean view. Initial communication from Gisele and Phillipe was great. They provided very detailed travel information and recommendations along the way. They also provided information on Xcalak before our stay, so we knew what to expect as far as restaurants and amenities go. The stay was fantastic. Gisele and Phillipe are amazing hosts. They stay in the lower level of the residence, and are some of the most friendly and amazing people we have had the chance to meet. They make your entire stay comfortable, whether that means taking you on snorkel tours or waking up in the middle of the night to make sure your vehicle and belongings are safe (which was above and beyond anything would we expect). While you are sharing the premises with them, they make it clear that it's your house and beach for your stay. They interact with you as much or as little as you want. They also went out of there way to help us accommodate our dining wishes. Daily housekeeping visits ensure your quarters are always neat and tidy, and it seemed that Phillipe was up as the sun was coming up every morning to make sure that the beach was immaculate. Kayaks and snorkel gear were provided. All in all, I can't recommend this enough. This isn't a place for folks who like nightlife and populous locations; however, if you're looking for comfortable accommodations off the beaten path then look no further. We will vividly remember this trip for a long time, and hopefully we get a chance to visit Gisele and Phillipe again!

Summary: I hesitate to write this review only because I would prefer to keep this location as much to myself as possible. We (my wife and I, our 22 year old daughter and 13 year old son) stayed at Casa Caracola for 10 nights and I can't wait until we return. Everything you have or will read in other reviews about this place and Phillipe & Gisele, the owners is spot on. But mere words will never do the Casa or its hosts justice. You have to experience it. Now that said, Xcalak is not a destination geared to the average vacationer. You should be the kind of traveler that likes to get away from the tourist traps, is willing to spend a bit more for a authentic experience and be able to appreciate nature in all its raw and sometimes unpredictable beauty. Come with that attitude and your patience will be more than rewarded. Gisele and Phillipe have gone above and beyond to create an environment that lets you explore the natural beauty of this unique part of the world. They are very knowledgeable about the aquatic and bird life that is indiscriminate in its variety. Phillipe has built an "aquarium" just a few meters off the beach which has become a gathering place for a plethora of fish, small and large. He feeds them daily and may even let you join him if you're a good guest! Now bigger species are starting to become curious about this spot ... on our first day a stingray swam several circles around my wife before retreating, the first time, according to Phillipe that one of these creatures has come in so close. Just beyond the aquarium and under a submerged boat lives a moray eel. Very shy but he was coaxed out one afternoon for us to see up close and personal. Further out under the coral we came across a nurse shark resting on the ocean floor, spade fish, jack and all kinds of tiny, rainbow colored fish darting in and out of the reef. Casa Caracola is situated between the ocean and a large lagoon which we did not have time to explore. Next time I hope to take a kayak around the edge of the lagoon with Phillipe so he can show me the underground channels fish use to migrate from the lagoon into the sea. And when you are weary of exploring the Casa is a glorious place to relax ... in the master bedroom with wide screen view of the ocean and sky, two separate decks where you can lounge in sun or the shade of a palapa and your own private rooftop aerie which provides an unimpeded 360 degree view of the lush surroundings. Do not hesitate to book in here.

Summary: The decision to stay at Casa Caracola was the best decision we have made in a long time. The owners, Phillipe and Gisele is wonderful people. The property is immaculate, the house is gorgeous. A lot of attention is given to each detail of the house, from the furniture, that Phillipe makes, to Gisele's decoration of the rooms. The master bedroom on the top floor is gorgeous, some days I did not even want to leave the porch just outside the room, the view is stunning. We wanted a table up there to have dinner in the evening, and within minutes, we had a table. We cannot thank you enough. The caretakers, Teo and Luz, are wonderful and so kind. They cooked us a few phenomenal dinners, took my husband and I fishing on the lake, they were always friendly and helpful, even if we had a language barrier, Gisele was always there to translate. I was also an honor to meet them. Sunrise was our favorite time of the day, having coffee on the porch at 6:15 in the morning, just stunning. Moonrise over Xcalak is so special. When there is no moon, you have to lie on your back on roof and watch the stars, there are gazillions of stars. We stayed for two weeks, two weeks of pure bliss, enjoyment and relaxation. We loved every minute. Thank you for allowing us to stay at your home and become part of your family.

Summary: if previous reviews haven't already convinced you... The property overview speaks for itself. Everything is as advertised. I haven't stayed on a hotel on vacation or for business since my first vacation home rental in 2011, so my experience covers time, place, property, and homeowner. I have never been disappointed, but in Casa CaraCola, I could not find finer. Phillipe and Giselle graciously share the majesty of their paradise. From snorkeling adventures, to coconuts, to travel and recreational recommendations, and their "boys". While some vacations I may go nonstop from sunrise to sunset, others are about relaxation, decompression, and centering. This one was all about the later, and it was, in every way... Perfect. I look toward to a little more snorkeling experience on my return. As well as my goal to dive. Until then, my friends.... For all that you do, and for all that you are. Thank you again for sharing with me, the grandeur that nature shares with all of us. All my very best to you, Julie I hope to see you this fall!

Summary: The house was just as described, cleaned daily, one of the best parts were how well the owners took care of our needs, Giselle and Phillip live below us, and the first day we arrived phillip brouoght us to coconuts with straws in them, I had a once out of each one and replaced with rum, and mentioned to him i liked them, after which they arrived dayly at cocktail time. Phillip and Giselle both love to snorkel, and they either went with me or I with them. I am a very picky snorkeler, and can actually agree that the snorkelling was great right out front of the house, lots of coral heads with all sorts of beautiful colored fish, i was lucky to see a large batwing ray, and some barricuda. The caretakers Teo and Luz were great as well.I had a blown fuse in the car, which controled power for my GPS, and Teo found me one. I cant say enough good things about this place you wont e dissapointed. Written by Bruce Lehmann from Vancouver Island BC Canada

Summary: We spent 5 nights at Casa Caracol and everything was perfect! The house is wonderful, there are two large double rooms, one of which is better then a 5 stars hotel; the other one has every little comfort that you would need (we prefer hard matrass and this one was a bit too soft for us - the only recommendation we have is to change it). The view from the terraces is priceless; you have at any time of the day a small paradise just for your self. Also the daily cleaning service was something we really appreciated. We met Philip (the owner) and he was extremely lovely and took very good care of us: from refreshing us with fresh coco juice at the beach, to preparing us a delicious dinner (1 kg of lobster) for New Years Eve. The four of us are very happy about the time we spend at Casa Caracol and wish to come back very soon.

Summary: This is by far the best hotel I’v ever stayed in! Me and my boyfriend was just blowened away. The rooms were incredible. They had just thought about every single detail. And the view… WOW! Every morning I woke up doing my yoga in the morning sun on the big wonderful terrace outside our bedroom (a yoga persons dream!), and afterwords we had breakfast there in the sun looking out over the sea. The house is just on the beach and a few meters from the the crystal clear water where you can walk twenty meters out and the water will still be just up to your knees. This place is just perfect for families with little once, or families with older children, for couples or just to go by your self. Just about 50 meters out in the sea there is a coral reef (!) where me and my boyfriend went snorkeling with Phiippe, one of the house owners! This was crazy unbelievable! Philippe leaded us through this amazing labyrinth of corals, just like the corals had builded a road between their walls. Amazing fishes, big and small, surrounded us. Philippe showed us a huge lobster and I never in my life thought I would swim so close to a ray! Close to the house, on the other side, there is a beautiful lake (where you can borrow a little boat) that we unfortunate didn’t had time to explore. The house also have kayaks you can borrow. Next to the house lives a little family, Luc and Teo and there beautiful little daughter. This couple cleans and takes care of the house. And they are doing a fantastic job I most say. We asked them to prepare a chicken for us and wow… this was the most juicy, tasty and amazing chicken I’v ever eaten in my life! This secret place, far away from the city, is an Mexican treasure. I’m so glad I went there and I just need to come back! On our trip in Mexico we explored Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Akumal, Cobá, Cichen Itza, Valladolid, Hollbox, Cancun and of course Xcalac and this was truly the highlight of our trip! At last I want to give a BIG thank you to the amazing couple, Gisele and Philippe, who owns this beautiful house. They was so warm and welcoming and was just fantastic and helpful through our stay in Casa Caracola. All the time taking care of us and making sure everything was perfect made it even more special than it already was. Thank you so much Gisele, Philippe, Lus and Teo A big hug from Sweden! Amanda and Mustafa
