Positive: The property was one out of a fairytale mostly. To see a castle being restored from ground up by the hosts themselves, was an experience itself that could take your breath away. I couldn’t give more praise to the owners in general. From their kind personalities, to making you feel at home as well as making sure you were taken care of the whole time, their hospitality was outstanding - we seriously couldn’t have asked for more. I think the property was everything we could have asked for to end our vacation and the authentic castle structure coming back to life, really says a lot about the hard work and dedication the hosts put into restoring history for the property and town. I really look forward to someday coming back and staying here again… I can’t praise the place and the hosts enough! Thank you for all you have done for us during our stay!
Negative: Absolutely nothing. There was nothing we didn’t not like about the property. It is a ruine, being restored by the owners - so a lot of hard work and dedication goes into the process itself to provide an authentic atmosphere.
Summary: Breathtaking, incredible, welcoming, and feeling at home yet being back in time.

Positive: What an extraordinary experience! Our stay at Castle Hermannstein in Wetzlar was truly out of this world! If you love medieval history, character, knights, swords, authenticity, castles as they were in early medieval times and a touch of fantasy, this place has it all - a full immersion into the spirit of early castle living. The atmosphere is magical. Every corner tells a story. Climb the spiral stone staircase to the top and imagine the medieval ladies and knights who have walked here before. Lee, the owner, has achieved something remarkable here. We truly admired the love and passion he has invested so far and the life he has breathed back into this most extraordinary historic site. This is a MUST stay for all history lovers and those who crave a stay with a difference. We will never forget it. Thank you so much for making us feel so welcome. We will be back!!!!

Positive: Staying at Burg Hermannstein was an unforgettable experience! This 14th-century castle, lovingly restored by the wonderful owners, Betty and Lee, truly feels like stepping back in time. We stayed in the Rittersaal, which is located in the oldest part of the castle's tower (not the main building). Be prepared for the climb—around 80 stairs—but once you reach the top, you’re rewarded with a private, spacious tower all to yourself. It’s perfect for those looking for an authentic medieval experience, complete with a grand fireplace where you can make a fire to warm up the chilly stone walls. It really gives you a feel for what life in a medieval castle was like! The stay includes a simple yet satisfying breakfast with eggs, fresh bread and jam, and a selection of fresh fruit—an ideal way to start the day before exploring the grounds. And there’s plenty to explore! Beyond the main rooms, the castle has rooms filled with fascinating antiquities, like old weapons, furniture, and even a Kerker (dungeon). It’s an incredible treat for history buffs or anyone with a love of old-world charm. This is not a typical hotel stay. With just four rooms to rent, plus the owners' apartment, it feels more like you’re living in a historical monument. You’ll need to leave your room to access the bathroom unless you are staying in the Rittersaal, but that’s part of the experience of staying in an authentic castle setting. And as a bonus, six friendly resident cats roam freely, adding a cozy touch to the grand surroundings. We absolutely loved our time here and can’t wait to return to see the continued renovations. Betty and Lee are bringing this castle back to life, and we’re grateful to have been part of it, even for a short time. If you’re looking for a unique, rustic stay that lets you step directly into history, Burg Hermannstein is a must-visit.

Positive: The host was very nice and accommodating and they served a very good breakfast. The idea of staying in a castle was intriguing and it was very nice once we reached the tower room where we stayed.
Negative: We were there in October and it was very cold at night. This place is still in its design phase and we didn't think that the rooms would not have conventional heating. We had to start a fire in the open fireplace which caused some smoke to fill the room and the bathroom and shower were very awkward, but hey, we were in a castle. I think it would have been a much better experience in July or August? Also, lots of steps to climb so smaller the luggage the better.
Summary: You're staying in a castle tower, book in summer, good breakfast and very nice hosts.
