Positive: The hotel staff were polite and friendly. Bed was comfortable. Although the current facilities were disappointing we were informed that renovations are being undertaken and are expected to be completed before Christmas this year. As such, with suitable repair and appropriate attention to meeting guests needs this could actually be a very pleasant place to stay.

Negative: Staff were pleasant and friendly, but our room can only be described as shabby and dated; lacking various basics and considerations of hotel guests needs compared with similar types of hotels. For example, no headboard on the bed. An insecure toilet seat in the bathroom. No hairdryer. The room was in dire need of redecoration and refurbishment. Walls between rooms were not insulated so other guests in adjacent rooms could be heard talking. A large no smoking sign literally stuck onto -- and in the middle of -- the wall at the end of the bed was the most prominent feature of the room's decor, rather than being a discretely positioned reminder.

Positive: I had a wonderful stay and meeting the owner and staff. The Bertie has changed hands and Maria and Jeff are working tirelessly to improve this property that had been neglected by prior ownership. They seem to know what they are doing and have a driven vision. The cost of the room was very affordable. and we were there the day they reopened for food and I was pleasantly suprised. You can see the hard work that the staff is putting into this property and can imagine that as time passes they will continue to bring this property to its full potential. We felt safe and secure, and I must thank them for their hospitality in welcoming an American from Arizona with open arms and making me feel at home.

Negative: I would recomend fans in the room.

Summary: Very pleasant, affordable, and we look forward to revisiting.
