Positive: A beautiful location in the New Forest. Although the hotel is on a road, it’s surrounded by fields.
Negative: The hotel is poorly maintained and in dire need of a fresh coat of paint. Doors, walls and skirting doors are very tatty and scuffed. All woodwork (especially doors and doorframes) is grubby - a mysterious oversight by cleaners and management. The main staircase winds past a large window with a clear view of a rubbish-strewn roof right outside it. Again, how staff and management are able to walk past this eyesore without acting left us puzzled. Our bathroom was in need of renovating. The shower sprays water onto the floor, and an outside corner of the bath is rotten due to the continuous damp. The shower gel dispenser hadn’t been refilled. It’s hotel policy not to service the room during the entire duration of a guest’s stay. Returning to a sudden bath may and floor, unmade beds and used coffee cups piling up did little to improve our moods. Management claims this neglect is to “protect guest privacy” and for “environmental reasons” when clearly it’s simply down to a lack of staff or any desire to provide an adequate experience. Making a bed and drying a floor don’t impact the planet. The hotel is beautifully located in the heart of the New Forest but suffers from a lack of care. Management and staff lack the training, pride and eye for detail that would elevate this property from barely mediocre to exceptional.
Summary: This poorly maintained hotel doesn’t do its location justice

Positive: The bouncy castle and ball pit set up for Easter were a big hit with our toddlers. The setting of the hotel is beautiful.
Negative: Our room (34) was a bit tired, lots of stains on the carpets, worn furniture etc. It’s in need of redecorating.
Summary: A good stay for one night

Positive: The location is excellent at the heart of new forest. The staff were welcoming, kind and understanding. Offered a discount when we raised issues. Free pancakes were provided for daughter birthday which was nice.
Negative: It was worn out in comparison to the pictures, it was not clean particularly the floor. It was dusty, had a couple of food dog crumbs, and paper waste from previous guests. Two extra beds were provided for children but mattresses were sinking into the bed frame and not comfortable. Cards to the room were not functioning even after refreshing their programming. Breakfast layout could improve as plates were too tiny, bowls had to be asked for, no honey.
Summary: Great potential with better management
