Positive: Very atmospheric place to stay, with lovely, cosy interior! The cottage has old (in a good way!) and traditional feel to it, with all of the modern comforts you might need. We stayed there in October, with the outside temperatures on the lower side, and inside was so lovely and warm! Additionally, working log burner added extra warmth and cosiness in the living area. Kim, whom I’ve liaised with regarding the cottage, was very nice and helpful throughout. The location was also fantastic, only short drive to Edinburgh and beautiful Pentland Hills reserve. I’d definitely visit again!

Positive: The cottage looked idyllic, the location was perfect for us to visit family. The garden was so lovely and enclosed, perfect for our little dog. The bedrooms and kitchen were tastefully decorated and generally clean. We found all the utensils etc that we needed

Negative: There were several issues with the cottage which I have raised directly with the Host. Generally this was around the condition of the furnishing in the main living area, the lighting, and maintenance issues which should and could easily have been resolved before we arrived. The log burner was still out of use which we had been advised about in advance. This has been highlighted in earlier reviews, and it was unfortunate that this is still not resolved. It was minus 2 and below our whole stay, and there were issues with two of the key radiators in the main living areas. I would suggest the fireplace and burner is a key selling point , and it really did affect the ambience of the cottage, especially during autumn/winter stays. First impressions really matter, and all of the really good things about this cottage were lost due to the issues I have raised with the Host. It is such a shame, as all of them can and should have been easily resolved with very little expense, and more attention to detail. The Host has reassured me the issues will be addressed, so I will wait and see if this does actually happen.

Positive: The cottage was roomy and spacious for a cottage. Great kitchen! We used the fireplace a lot too.

Negative: I’m 6’2” so the bed was a bit short for me. The shower was nice except having to mop up the whole bathroom floor after every shower. Don’t put the floor mat down while showering or else it will be soaked. You have to mop first then put down the mat

Summary: We had a great 2 weeks staying at Barjols Cottage. It’s not far from Biggar which has great food choices. We chose this
