Positive: Everything was perfect! The homestay was clean and comfortable. Jimmy and his family were extremely kind and welcoming, they made us feel like part of their home. The breakfast on the river at the floating market (we booked the tour that Jimmy is running) was unforgettable, and we loved discovering how locals make noodles and banana cakes. The bike ride through the countryside was also a highlight, peaceful, authentic, and full of smiles from the locals.

Negative: Nothing at all, everything was excellent from start to finish.

Summary: An authentic and unforgettable Mekong experience with a truly wonderful local family.

Positive: We had an awesome stay with Jimmy and his little family at his homestay. Jimmy speaks pretty good English, which made communicating easy, and he went the extra mile to show us around and show us where to get local food etc. The room was clean and tidy if simple. Jimmy also runs tours through a few travel agency platforms, but we just organised something with him directly. He took us on a river boating trip, which was very peaceful, and Jimmy gave some great insight into the life of the locals along the waterways. We visited the floating markets in Can Tho where boats and vendors traded fresh produce and local meals. We visited local rice noodle producers’ workshop and a small fruit farm. We then transitioned onto bicycles at a temple (Jimmy arranged prior) and rode through the countryside — past rice paddies, quaint villages, blacksmiths, local diners — seeing how people live, working in fields, kids waving, the smell of cooking in small roadside kitchens. Visiting the local artisans and blacksmiths was a highlight: and we had some of the regions best noodles at a little lunch stop where you have to press the noodles yourself. In the homestay, Jimmy was around if you needed something but not overbearing; he was good for a chat over a beer to get an idea about culture and the struggles of Vietnam. He’s politically savvy. Can Tho isn’t exactly a hotspot of action and you only need a few days there but definitely enhanced our trip. If we stayed in Saigon the whole time, we wouldn’t have seen the more authentic aspects of Vietnam. If you want an authentic, immersive glimpse of rural life, this place is an absolute gem.

Negative: It is a little distance from the main town, so you are better off getting a cab to get into Can Tho. But with "Grab" (the Uber of Vietnam) its so cheap to cab everywhere.

Positive: We had a fantastic trip to the Mekong Delta, exploring less touristy places and staying with a genuine, warm Vietnamese family. The host spent a lot of time with us, taking us to delicious lunches and dinners, and we learned so much about life in Vietnam. His family is wonderful—his wife, children, and in-laws are all incredibly kind and welcoming. It was an unforgettable experience, and we felt right at home!

Negative: The 'lake view in the mountains' turned out to be... a wallpaper mural! I guess technically it's still a 'room with a view'—just a bit more 2D than expected! Just a joke! everything was perfect!

Positive: Jimmy and his family are super nice! They welcomed us very warmly into their home, which is cosy and convenient as it is just a grab away from Can Tho city and yet out of the urban chaos. The room and bathroom are comfortable and clean with all amenities (including air conditioner and ventilator). Jimmy, as manager of Mekong Experience, organised a nice half-day tour for us, which included a wander around one of the floating markets, a visit to a family-run noodle factory, and then a boat ridealong the river of the Spring Forest where there was plenty of birds of different species, and the rice harvest was in progress. Perhaps the pace of the different activities was a bit tight but overall it was a really good experience, not least because Jimmy was really dedicated (before, after and during the tour) to make us eat typical dishes in non-touristy places, which is something we really appreciate! The best place was a little diner in the middle of the countryside, where we arrived by bike, again thanks to Jimmy who arranged the bike rental for us and gave us directions to this family-run niche along the river. In short, we had a great time! Thanks again Jimmy!

He can tailor the tour for you if you're running short of time like us. Highly recommended his homestay if you're visiting Cantho.
