In the foothills of the plateau of the Champagne Crayeuse, Chavanges is a small village with 700 inhabitants and many shops (bakery, grocery, pharmacy, medical centre, etc.) Located 15 km from Brienne-le-Château, Chavanges is a flowered village where it is pleasant to live and rest. Its monumental Saint-Georges Church, its hall and its half-timbered houses with their “porte-rue” will not leave you indifferent to the beauty of the site.
Located in the village centre of Chavanges, our gîte “Au detour du Der” was built in 2012. This new 230 m² house is in a contemporary style. It has been built around a huge living space (living room opening onto the kitchen and the entrance) where a sweet, warm and convivial atmosphere reigns. You will particularly appreciate the Zen and relaxing atmosphere of the wood as well as the natural warmth provided by the sunrays that penetrates trough large window bays.
Everything has been designed to ensure comfort. It is a spacious functional house composed of 4 large bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and 3 toilets and fitted to accommodate up to 10 persons.
You will fully enjoy the terrace that surrounds the house and spend pleasant moments with friends or in family. You can take your meals there but also relax and rest on deckchairs while enjoying the tranquillity of this place in the shade of the hundred-year-old horse chestnut that is in the park.

Summary: Lovely property, well presented, great facilities, clean, we absolutely loved the heated pool. Host was fantastic, quick to respond to any queries. Quiet area which is what we wanted. Good WiFi speed for kids & plenty of space. Just a note, if you book through VRBO make sure you check what’s included directly with host. For example VRBO site said towels were included but they weren’t (host provided with no problem), VRBO site didn’t mention deposit required separately or cleaning fee (neither were an issue for us). So we had no problems at all, just making others aware to double check with host beforehand. Would highly recommend!

Summary: Fabulous week in Chavanges. Lovely house and pool. Very well equipped. Quiet village and only half an hour from Lake Der with lots of activities and restaurants. Lovely host. Can’t wait to return.

Summary: The property is really lovely, big spacious rooms and the heated pool was a huge hit with us all week. Plenty of bikes you can use and a table tennis table. Inside the house has all you need, with the huge showers being a particular hit! Our only slight disappointment was that the boulangerie in the village was closed for a holiday whilst we were there (early August) and there were no other boulangeries we could get to nearby although this of course was not the gite owner’s fault!. Other than a pharmacy and a small basic mini-mart shop, there are no bars or restaurants in Chavagnes (although this was fine with us!). The gite is ideally located to reach Lac Du Der (18 minute drive) which has multiple activities (beach, pedalos, paddle boarding, restaurants, crazy golf, etc).

Summary: The property is excellent. Large, comfortable and the pool is gorgious. The environment is very relaxing. Lake du Der close by. Few remarks: the pool security system was out of order (we especially chose this venue since there were three little kids with us), three of the six mountainbikes were not ok and, although the information was somewhere on the internet, we were unaware of the fact that the towels were no longer included in the package, due to COVID. Information on that issue might be more accessible or mentioned. No towels is quite an issue with six adults. Aside these details, the venue is excellent and equiped with everything you need to enjoy a very comfortable stay. Would most certainly take this one into account when another family holiday comes up. Can 100% recommend this accomodation.

Summary: We had a wonderful experience in Chavanges this July. We are a family of 5 and the house was perfect for us. The house is great and with lot of space. The terrace was perfect to enjoy the weather and the pool. Laurence was very welcoming and helped us with tips on activities and tours. We highly recommend this house as a vacation destination.

Summary: Me and my friends really enjoyed the stay. Everything was nice and clean as we arrived and we felt very comfortable during our week in the house. Laurence was very helpful for all the questions and little problems we had, no matter if on the house or sightseeing in the area. I would not hesitate to come back another time to see the Champagne in summer!

Summary: 7 of us thoroughly enjoyed our week at this property. It is a fairly new property, and was immaculately clean. It is situated close to the centre of a small town with a small supermarket, bakers, pizza restaurant and more. It is only a 3-minute walk to the centre of the town, yet you are far enough away from the neighbours not to need to worry about making noise. The house itself was more than big enough for our needs, with spaces to sit either together or separately if we chose. Most activities were a drive away, although in the village itself there is a tennis court you are able to use. Well recommended.

Summary: Swimming pool is fantastic and large lawn great for playing games. Apart from one day at Nigloland and one day at Lake Der, we stayed at the house and enjoyed playing board / card games , the pool and the garden. Highly recommended!
