Positive: This was definitely one of the highlights of our motoring trip across France, Spain and Portugal. On arrival we were welcomed by Sylvie and presented with a bottle of Cidre Bouchet, a welcome treat after a long drive. The opportunity to stay in a Chateau at a realistic price is not found everyday. The immaculately kept grounds and approach set our expectations which were met in every way. We were able to drive right up to the door to unload our bags and then park about 100 metres away, well inside the grounds. The area is quiet and secluded which matched the character of the Chateau perfectly. Despite the size of the building there are few apartments, which gives a feeling of exclusivity and the beautifully decorated bedroom was incredibly comfortable and tastefully furnished in a style that complemented the overall setting. The bathroom was a real surprise, sporting a huge tin bath which would have been the bathing vessel of the time, but carefully modernised to accept modern plumbing. Our spacious room had split levels leading to the bathroom and separate toilet. The space provided was to say the least generous and the view overlooking the grounds sported unique curious metal sculptures, also found inside the Chateau. Breakfast was served downstairs in a way that felt as if it was prepared especially for us. Some items were prepared to order free of charge and the two young hostesses were thoroughly charming. Walking the grounds provided further surprises, we came across a smaller building which was solely a playhouse for children and another building adjacent to the Chateau that we thought might be for the owners or staff use. Fortunately these appear to be from the same period as the Chateau, not a modern afterthought. Sylvie provide a recommendation to a local restaurant where we enjoyed an excellent meal situated a few hundred metres away from the Chateau. Our one regret was the fact that we were here for just one night.
Negative: We didn't have any dislikes. The only point we could mention is that the drive to the Chateau is as discreet as the rest of the property as its entrance is via a small lane on the side of the main road through the village and easily missed. The GPS announces that you have arrived as you pass it. There is an information centre at that point where the staff gave us directions.
Summary: The Jewel in the Crown

Comfortable bed in a huge room on the top floor, the wood bathroom countertop is gorgeous. Great breakfast, would gladly stay here again!
