Positive: Free breakfast at delicious restaurant on the property (I would recommend stopping by for lunch and dinner too). Also have a cute ice cream parlor and gift shop right next door. Free tours by the owners themselves. They are very friendly and knowledgeable about the property. Beautiful location and architecture. Rooms and buildings had some modern amenities while still preserving much of the history. They host many cool events as well. Wonderful experience for a very fair price. Various state parks and trails close by, as well as historical sites, in-town shops, and restaurants.

Negative: They are currently working on upkeep and restoration— that being reliant on customer flow and donations. So parts of the property aren’t fully restored yet, and it seems they are in need of more staff to take care of the grounds and clean the many buildings they have on the campus. Go support them by spending a weekend here! I’m excited to see what they are able to do with the place once they finish their work on it.

Summary: Very charming small-town experience— beautiful and peaceful place. We will be back!

Positive: This place is amazing if you like solitude or think outside the box of what if what could be let your mind wonder and enjoy the arcatecture and listen to the past see it. If I could get away every weekend this would be my go to. The grounds are amazing. The room wow and dont get me started on the food and lets not mention the cinnamon rolls what. If you do go and at least see for yourself you are missing out.

Positive: The Academy is huge and you are literally stepping into history. The food at the restaurant was delicious and we are already planning another trip to the town to go back to try more items from the menu. We have been told the cinnamon rolls are not to be missed. We did not get them on this stay but are hopeful that they will have some ready next time. The waitresses were very friendly and professional. The room was beautiful and very clean. My favorite was the large claw footed tub! We enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the evening and looking at all the antiques. The property is very easy to locate.

Negative: Check in and out is awkward. There isn't a desk or central area to know to go to. We kind of floundered about in the candy/ice cream shop until we were able to question the worker. We were not asked our names, for any identification, etc.Checking out was just as odd. We tried to give the waitress the room key, but the bosses weren't there yet so she was uncomfortable taking it. The owners looked at us and even walked by us but never acknowledged us. Finally after talking to the waitress again we found out one of the men who had walked by us was an owner and we got it taken care of. We gave ourselves a tour because the person who comes at 9 to do them never showed up (or we weren't told). Communication needs to be bumped up a bit. Because the building is so old you are hit with mustiness in the room. We totally overlooked it, but some anti-moisture products would be appreciated in the room. The bed is very firm and you have to turn the fan on because the a/c doesn't cool the room well. The only major issue we had in the room was the lack of bathroom door. Some things require more privacy. While the set up currently prohibits a door (antique door frame meeting modern facilities) even a nice curtain hung would be acceptable.

Positive: I was pleasantly surprised and delighted with the restaurant on the property—the food was not only DELICIOUS, but affordable! I absolutely loved eating dinner there each night of my weeks’ long stay. Choices for breakfast were wonderful! The claw foot tub and shower pressure was just right. No shivering cold water blasts! The historical setting and grounds were so interesting.

Negative: A minor suggestion: a daylight bulb above bathroom mirror would help for makeup application. There is abundant warm lighting in bathroom, with 2 sources. Keep the warm ceiling light!

Summary: A beautiful and fascinating setting and lovely, accommodating family of hosts. I hope to return!
