Summary: Our stay at Amara Cay Resort was not as expected. The location was nice, and the personnel friendly. However, there were several areas that could use significant improvement, especially considering the price. My biggest concern was the pool area. There was no personnel supervising the pool, and I saw several guests getting into the pool wearing dirty sandals. I also saw a large dog sitting on a pool chair, and later its owner used one of the pool towels provided for guests to dry the dog. This is a major sanitary oversight, and after seeing this, I did not feel comfortable getting into the pool or using the towels. There isn't much of a beach, and it could use better cleaning and maintenance. The water was only ankle-deep, making it impossible to swim, and there was also a significant amount of sargassum. I think the resort could do a much better job maintaining, cleaning and improving the beach. If you're looking for a peaceful stay, be aware that there is live music near the rooms facing the pool from approximately 6–10 PM. The noise was disruptive and made it difficult to relax or sleep. After complaining, the staff moved us to a room facing the sea, where the sound did not travel as much. The other room option appeared to be facing a parking lot, which was unacceptable. We did not eat at the hotel, so I can't comment on it. Amara Cay was not the escape we were hoping for, and the resort experience left us feeling that there is significant room for improvement.

Summary: We had an amazing stay at Amara Cay Resort! The property was beautiful, clean, and relaxing, with an incredible waterfront setting and a true tropical Keys atmosphere. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout our entire stay. The pool and outdoor areas were perfect for relaxing, and the location made it easy to enjoy everything Islamorada has to offer. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and would absolutely recommend Amara Cay to anyone visiting the Florida Keys. We’re already looking forward to coming back!

Summary: The front desk staff & the shuttle drivers were amazing. As for the bartenders outside in the pool deck, they weren’t the nicest nor attentive & other guest had made the same complaints. We understand it can get busy, but they wouldn’t pay attention to who’s been waiting for the longest to get helped. Aside from that, the A/C on both rooms booked, were not cold at all & had been locked. We sweated the whole night through. Lastly, I did find a tiny roach near the coffee machine in the room. Oh! Ziggie & Mad Dogs was terrible! 8 of us & not one order came in good. I highly recommend you go elsewhere.

Summary: Love this place, but it needs to be better maintained. Up close, everything is looking tired – chipped paint, rusty equipment, busted fixtures. It could go from 3 to 4/5 stars with more attention to detail.

Summary: My experience began poorly at check-in when I was assigned Room 102, which overlooks the parking lot. At no point during the booking process or on your website was it apparent that a standard room could have this type of view. Had I known this, I would not have booked the resort. When I raised my concerns with the front desk, I was told that because I had not booked a specific room view, nothing could be done. I was also told, "There's a reason they don't post that room online, but it has to get filled anyway." I found this comment extremely concerning. Unfortunately, the room itself was far worse than just the view. Room 102 shares a wall with two elevators and sits directly behind the front desk and adjacent to the lobby. Throughout my stay, I was constantly disturbed by elevator noise, lobby music, conversations at the front desk, guests checking in and out, and children running through the hallway. It was impossible to relax or get a full night's sleep. I specifically chose a resort for a peaceful vacation, but I left feeling exhausted. I reported these issues during my stay and asked to be moved to another room but was told there was no availability, that the hotel was sold out for the next three nights and then there was absolutely nothing that they could do. This was later contradicted at checkout when a different front desk worker asked us how our stay was and when we were honest, she said we “should have said something, and they could have tried to move us.”

Summary: Not a good experience. Dog poop on the pathway leading to the pool. We had room 319. Construction going on both sides of the hall between the elevator and the room. Ceiling torn out. Banging and hammering. We enjoyed staying here previously. We will never come back!!

Summary: As repeat guests of Amara Cay, my husband and I chose to return for our babymoon. Unfortunately, this stay left us feeling overlooked and disappointed. Several weeks before our stay, I exchanged emails with hotel regarding our babymoon and a request related to a medical condition. I was assured these notes had been documented. However, upon check-in, the front desk staff was unaware. I showed the email correspondence, but the response was dismissive rather than accommodating. Hospitality is found in the small details, especially when welcoming repeat guests. As excited as we were for this trip, we didn’t even receive a simple congratulations on our babymoon. While that may seem minor, those small gestures make guests feel valued. The room was spacious and had a nice view, but there were several issues- The bedside outlet didn’t work, the AC was locked, and there was a persistent musty odor in the room. To be fair, there were positives. The restaurant staff was wonderful, and we really enjoyed the Rum Runner water taxi and outdoor amenities. We also visited Three Waters Resort, Amara Cay’s sister property, where the staff was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming- highly recommend! What makes this review difficult to write is that we’ve enjoyed previous stays and chose Amara Cay because of those experiences. A babymoon is a special memory, and instead of feeling celebrated, we were dismissed. At these room rates, attentive service should be the standard.
