Summary: I stayed at this hotel as part of an extended layover from the US to mainland Europe. This was a gorgeous property with super friendly staff and tons of amenities. I loved the bar, the spas, the pool and the gardens. The room was great too with an incredible bathroom - rainfall shower and massive tub - but it was unseasonably hot when I stayed and there was only a portable AC unit to use. It was a bit musty and had to be constantly refilled with ice, which was a bit of a challenge to maintain.

Summary: I paid £180 for one night at Alexander House, and with that price tag, my expectations were high. Unfortunately, the experience was deeply disappointing. The room decor (Chelsea) was tired, dated, and in a shocking state of disrepair (see attached photos). Chipped tiles, threaded carpets, cracked paint, worn furniture, water-damaged artwork, and general stains were just some of the obvious problems. These issues clearly weren’t recent, indicating long-term neglect and a lack of attention to maintenance – something the management should be ashamed of, as it shows guests are not being prioritised. Additionally, the swimming pool required an additional £40 payment since it’s in the spa area, which felt like a cheap money grab given the already steep room rate. The garden sauna, which could have been a small consolation, wasn’t heating properly either. When I raised these issues with the duty manager a few hours after check-in, he was friendly and professional. He explained that in ‘similar situations’ an upgrade was often offered. While the second room we moved to was in better condition, it was frustrating and inconvenient to have to repack and move across the hotel, especially during what was meant to be a rare, relaxing break with my partner. Disappointingly, other areas of the hotel showed similar signs of poor maintenance – from broken tiles to stained carpets. Given the price and the hotel’s supposed reputation, this stay fell far below expectations.

Summary: Booked one night stay to celebrate my step-son's 21st birthday, we had 2 king-bed rooms in the main house. Full of character, spacious and very clean. We enjoyed drinking outside in the sun, the spa was clean and although busy it didn't feel crowded, and we made use of the outdoor jacuzzi and sauna. Our meal at Reflections was a little disappointing, but I put this down to them being extremely busy and possibly a staff member down. After dinner we enjoyed further drinks at the Champagne bar, which had a great atmosphere. Breakfast in the morning was plentiful. It was our 3rd trip, and we will definitely have a 4th.

Summary: It’s a nice property but does not really achieve a 5 star level. The building is very nice but the interior design lacks the level of elegance of a 5-star property. We stayed in a garden room in the new building which was very large but not particularly well laid out. The restaurant tables were small and crammed and the food was ok but overpriced.

Summary: Very nice hotel surrounded by nature. The staff was absolutely amazing. Greeted when you walk in cared for by concierge. Rooms were clean and property was well maintained. I would definitely recommend and as an extra treat for yourself by going and enjoying some of their great spa services!
Tracey Mar 26, 2025 04:42:48 PM
Summary: The staff were very friendly and helpful. Decor and environment was superb but a little tired in places. Rooms were very hot. Spa was too busy to use when wanted.
Emma Mar 17, 2025 08:21:48 PM
Summary: The spa was not up to basic standards. Steam room was cold. Sauna was cold without water to top it up. Restaurant food was overpriced at £35:£40 per meal. It came cold. When informed staff, food was taken away, warmed under the grill and returned 20 mins later. This was a fish dish, so basically inedible.. The decor was dated and cheap looking. Terrible value for money overall.
