3 Bedroom Cottage in Berrynarbor, Ilfracombe

The character cottage, Mill Wheel, is a lovely upside-down three bedroom property comfortably accommodating up to five guests. Located at Wheel Farm near Combe Martin in North Devon guests can enjoy the peace and quiet of a stunning rural setting but remain within easy reach of the award-winning golden beach at Woolacombe.
The pet and family friendly cottage, which has been converted from the original water-mill building is one of 10 cottages at Wheel Farm, and guests are welcome to use the excellent onsite shared leisure facilities, which include an indoor heated swimming pool, a sauna, a tennis court, a dog walking/exercise field and a children's play area.
To take advantage of the countryside views and have direct access to the rear garden, Mill Wheel's open plan living area is positioned on the first floor of the property. The living area, which has wood beams, a high vaulted ceiling and exposed stone walls is wonderfully spacious and comfortable with large sofas centred around the wood-burning stove and TV. There is also a dining area and patio doors leading out to the terrace and garden beyond, which is enclosed by both a hedge and fence. Finally there is the well-equipped kitchen, which has a fridge, a dishwasher, a slow cooker and a microwave. If needed an onsite shared laundry has a washing machine and tumble dryer.
The three bedrooms are all located downstairs and include a good sized double with fitted wardrobe, a pretty single with views of the old water wheel, and a tastefully decorated twin with two full size single beds. All three bedrooms share the family bathroom, which has a large walk-in shower, a wash-basin and WC.
Please note that Mill Wheel is one of 10 cottages at Wheel Farm that can be booked individually or in conjunction with one or more of the other properties. Mill Wheel can also be booked with Upper Mill (sleeps 2) and Lower Mill (sleeps 2), which are both located within the same old water mill building.
The cottage is only a short drive to the long sandy beaches at Woolacombe and Putsborough, as well Saunton Sands and Croyde, which is a haven for surfers. For a range of shops and restaurants, Ilfracombe, Braunton and Barnstaple are all within easy reach, as is Combe Martin, which is less than two miles away and home to several places to eat and a lovely cove with sand/shingle beach where a few water-sports can be enjoyed.
For those who prefer the countryside, Exmoor, with it's miles of unspoilt moorland is also a short drive away. For families with children Combe Martin Dinosaur and Wildlife Park, Watermouth Castle and Exmoor Zoo are just down the road.

Summary: We had a great stay at wheel farm. Great location for exploring the coast and Exmoor. We really liked the facilities - we used the pool and tennis court a lot. The only slight downside was the poor internet connection. The Wi-Fi didn’t reach our cottage. It would probably be better to advertise the place with no internet available, so people aren’t disappointed. We had a great time though and would recommend Wheel Farm heartily!

Summary: This cottage was very spacious. The.location beautiful. We presume we were the first visitors of the season, as the house was very damp down in the bedrooms. Heating needed to be put on high for a couple.of days to make it comfortable. But we had a great break.

Summary: As there was no-one at reception on arrival, (and indeed it was un-manned the whole week), and this cottage is the first one in the complex, we were getting other guests knock who couldn't locate their property and one person even asking for toilet rolls. So the first evening was spent being 'caretakers' of the site. One family were even given the wrong cottage access code. Next morning, we were disgusted with the state of our 'private' garden as 8 bags of dog poo were collected, which was very unpleasant and not something one would have expected to do at the start of a holiday. Daily checks had to be made to ensure it was clean enough for our children to play in the garden. There needs to be a fence around the garden, as when the "caretaker" was on site, his dog came underneath the hedge into the garden where our 3 young children and our own dog were playing. This happened on two occasions and we had to forcibly remove the dog from the garden. So we had to be vigilant at all times. Fridge/freezer too big to fit underneath beams so stuck out into kitchen/dining area, reducing its size. It also restricted seating around the table. Dining room chairs were cheap, plastic ones and nut and bolts had to be tightened prior to use. The children's play area was very sparse and there was rotten wood in places. The grounds could be lovely but they have been left unattended and need a great deal of attention. There was no internet until Wednesday evening, which was required for working from home. Phone reception was non-existent. THIS WAS NOT THE HOLIDAY THAT WAS ADVERTISED and I strongly feel some sort of refund should be forthcoming. This was certainly not a holiday.

Summary: We arrived the same day as new owner took over but that didn’t deflect from anything at all so well done to the transition process. The location was perfect and we had 18 people in our group with 5 dogs in a range of cottages. The only really negative aspect was the swimming pool temp was chilly so curtailed any length of time spent in the pool. Perfect location to access the key places in the area.

Summary: Fabulous property, with lovely helpful owners. This is in a lovely location and had a super garden, ideal for our two dogs. The indoor swimming pool was a real bonus too. Lovely old cottage with large wood burner - just the thing for a chilly evening. Highly recommended
