Visit Culross Palace and Gardens and Culross Abbey, or step back in time and stroll up Back Causeway, a cobbled alleyway which has a raised central aisle that was used by noblemen to separate them from the ’commoners’.
Wandering around Culross gives you a unique opportunity to walk through history and experience what 17th and 18th-century towns in Scotland would of looked like at the time. As such, the town has been used for film locations including ’The Little Vampire, ’A Dying Breed’, ’The 39 Steps’ and ’Captain America: The First Avenger’. More recently, it has been used in the mystical and spellbinding TV saga ’Outlander’, where the town was transformed into the fictional village of Cranesmuir where Geillis lives. If you would like to follow in the footsteps of the characters from Outlander, then there are many of the other locations within driving distance, including Blackness Castle, Linlithgow Palace and Hopetoun House.
For walker and cyclists, the Fife Coastal Path passes through the village taking you along the shore to nature reserves and pretty villages. Only 30 minutes drive away is Stirling and Edinburgh Airport, where you can use the park and ride for easy access to the city centre. Beach 3 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 300 yards.

Summary: Sandhaven was a lovely place to stay. Beautifully furnished and well-equipped - plus a very generous and well thought out welcome basket - it was warm, cosy and set in the centre of an amazing village which boasted two dog-friendly cafes and lots of from-the-doorstep walks. We loved it and hope to return. Thank you x

Summary: This is a lovely upper apartment in a beautiful village and ideally located for access to other locations. The garden is shared between other properties but the owner does have chairs that you can use to sit out in in the public grassed area. The Red Lion (literally 2 mins walk from the cottage) is amazing for evening meals, booking is essential as it is extremely popular. I would recommend the pans in the property are replaced and a replacement toilet brush. Working for a cleaning company additional attention to detail in the cleaning of the bathroom tiles and shower mat (black mould) along with under furniture in the lounge would be beneficial to the property. No shop in the village, we stocked up at the local supermarket in Alloa for our week but worth bearing in mind. This is a wee gem and I would have no hesitation in returning.

Summary: The flat was exactly as advertised; well equipped for a family of four to be together while also having their own bedrooms for some personal space. Lots of extra touches to make us feel welcome, such a basket filled with Scottish snacks, tea/coffee. and a bottle of Prosecco. Took us a few minutes as Americans to adjust to the shower and power switches but we figured it out! Not extravagant by any sense but clean, comfortable furnishings with a ton of charm that matched the town. Being on the second floor I worried about making too much noise, however we met our downstairs neighbor who assured us all was well. The star of the visit had to be the village of Culcross. A small palace with a gorgeous garden to explore that overlooked the river, several cafes and a pub restaurant steps from our door. The town had many tourists throughout the day but never felt overcrowded. Residents and shop owners were lovely and seemed genuinely happy we were visiting. Great overall experience and am so looking forward to returning.

Summary: The apartment was spacious and well equipped right in the centre of Culross, a very pretty 17/18C small town. There were views of the Firth of Forth and the picturesque palace and town hall from the lounge. It was ideal for our cockapoo as the town green was next to the flat. Culross is very dog friendly with lots of waste bins and good walks. The first floor apartment had a good layout with a useful downstairs entrance area for coats and shoes and space to wipe muddy paws. There were comfortable beds and sofas, wifi and lots of TV channels including Netflix. Although there is no allocated parking we had no difficulty parking close by even over the busy Easter weekend. Some of the kitchen appliances were a bit dated but this did not bother us. Our only disappointment was the bathroom, which was below our expectations. We struggled with the over-bath electric shower and the wc flush was faulty. There was also a pervasive smell of cigarette smoke in the lounge which we found unpleasant at times. However value for money was fantastic and we could not have asked for a better location. The owners were very helpful. We would book the apartment again if we are holidaying in the Fife area.
